Pool Inspections
Visual Pool Inspection $275: In the visual pool inspection we focus on three main areas; Structural, Deck and Mechanical equipment.
1) In the structural examination we focus on the pool, coping and deck areas around the pool. The areas focused on include but are not limited to Tile, Grout, Coping, Interior Finish, Caulk/Expansion Joints and Deck. Tile and grout are scrutinized for loose or missing sections. Coping is inspected for missing, loose and hollow sections. Interior surface finish will be inspected for cracking, pitting, delamination and failure. Expansion joints are heavily scrutinized for cracks and gaps. Improperly sealing control joints can lead to premature cracking and heaving from excess moisture under pool deck.
2) In the deck equipment portion we focus on the hardware, both on the deck and in the pool. The areas focused on include but are not limited to Skimmers, Ladder, Handrails, and Main drain cover, Anchors, Inlets/Fittings, Ropes, Slides, Dive Boards and Covers. Skimmers are inspected for cracking and operation. Ladders and hand rails are inspected for rusting, pitting, cracking and signs of abuse. Maindrain covers are stringently scrutinized for presence and cracking to prevent possible entrapment hazards. Anchors, Inlets/Fittings, Ropes, Slides, Dive Boards and Covers are inspected for presence, condition, and operation.
3) In the Mechanical examination we focus on the pool itself and the coping/deck areas around the pool. The areas tested include but are not limited to Pumps/ Motor, Filter, Heater, Piping, Valves, Chemical Feeders, Gauges, Automatic Cleaning Equipment, Timeclocks/Controls, Switches, and Lights/GFCI. Pumps, filters, valves, heaters, and feeders will be inspected for condition, leakage and operation. Piping, gauges, timeclocks/controls, switches, and lights/GFCI will be inspected for condition and operation. (Please note pool must be open and running to test equipment.)
Pressure Test of Pool Lines $350: In a pressure test we send a crew of pool technicians to the site with testing equipment to check for leaks in the plumbing reachable from the surface. In this process the lines are charged with 15lbs of air pressure. (The operating pressure pool systems are designed to sustain a pressure of 60psi plus. The air pressure used will not in any way damage plumbing.) The pressure is then monitored for any indication of leak down. Any leak down measured indicates a compromised line. The lines tested include but are not limited to Skimmers, returns, aerators and cleaner lines. We recommend all pools that have endured 1 winter or more in St Louis get pressure tested due to the simple fact that a broken line can easily cost thousands of dollars to locate, dig up and repair.
Pressure Test Main Drain $175: Main drains are tested in the same manner as the rest of the pool lines. Due to their location on the bottom of the deep end and the time required under water Pool Tron employs certified divers. In addition to pressure testing the main drain, the drains are visually scrutinized for cracks and the Hydrostatic valves are tested and inspected. The crack inspections are important because the drains are a plastic vessel placed in earth that has the potential to move. A large majority of pools that have leak issues leak through the main drain. Hydrostatic valves are important to a pool because they release excess water pressure that can build up on the outside of pool structure. A hydrostatic valve failure could allow an empty pool to literally rise up out of the ground like a ship. (Note main drain cannot be tested if water is determined to be to cold for diver. Temperature is at the discretion of diver.)

Pool Cleaning
Debris
Empty your skimmer baskets frequently. You’ll help minimize the amount of leaves that end up on the bottom of your pool.
When cleaning the surface of your pool with a leaf net, work your way around the sides first, then clean from the middle of the pool to the sides.
Empty your leaf net occasionally when cleaning your pool’s surface. Otherwise, the net’s contents may accidentally end up back in the pool.
Keep the trees and shrubs around your pool trimmed back to minimize the amount of leaves and debris that end up in the pool.
Water Clarity
If your pool water appears green or has an unpleasant odor, the problem is probably caused by algae. Test for proper chlorine level, and consult a pool professional if the problem persists.
Keep your filter, pump, lint trap and skimmer baskets clean and in proper working condition to help ensure that your pool water stays sparkling clear.
Pool inlets should be adjusted so the surface water is moving in a circular direction. Make a habit of checking and emptying skimmer and pump baskets regularly.
Cleaner testing and repair
Our staff has been factory trained to test and repair virtually any type of cleaner on the market. With our in-house testing facility, a knowledgeable staff member will be able to run and test your cleaner detecting any issues and quickly repairing the unit often times within minutes while you wait.
Water testing and analysis
A Pool Tron professional will test and analyze your pool and/or spa water using the latest water testing equipment. Our water chemistry experts will be able to give you advice and recommendations on how to maintain a clean, safe and healthy swimming environment. Proper water balance will also aid in the longevity of your equipment avoiding warranty issues and premature failure of components.
Chemicals
Chlorine
To maintain the proper level of residual chlorine when bather load is heavy, shock your pool once a week with a 3 to 5 times higher than normal dose of chlorine. Do not enter the pool until the chemical level is normalized.
Chlorine is broken down by the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Using cyanuric acid to stabilize the chlorine in your pool at the beginning of the swim season will help you maximize your chlorine’s efficiency all summer long.
Filters remove suspended particles from pool water, but don’t control bacteria or algae. Maintain a residual chlorine level of 1.0-3.0 ppm (parts per million) to kill bacteria and/or algae present in the water.
pH Level
The ideal pH for pool water is 7.5. A pH range of 7.4-7.6 is considered acceptable.
Maintaining a total alkalinity (T.A.) range from 80-120 ppm (parts per million) will help minimize changes in pH, which can result in scaling and corrosion. Frequent testing can help prevent these problems before they get out of hand.
Quality
To ensure accurate readings, replace test kit reagents annually.
To ensure the highest water quality, test your pool’s pH and free chlorine levels daily, adding chemicals as needed.
Proper chemical usage is important for maintaining a healthy pool. Be sure to follow the chemical manufacturer’s instructions closely regarding proper dosage for your size pool.
Add an algaecide and chlorine to your pool before covering it for the winter. It will ensure that the water is clear and algae-free when you reopen it the following season.
